Imperfect Recall is an ongoing series that was begun in 2006. In these photographs I alter landscape-related images found in museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, and the Notebaert Natural History Museum in Chicago, by introducing them into my own dioramas and re-photographing them with a large format film camera. The resulting images have not been digitally altered in any way. The dioramas that I construct for each image are based on the local environs of the museum that owns the image. I illuminate my constructions with the museum’s artwork and then photograph the resulting environment.
